- Spend money not wasting it - Saving money for a rainy day - Why governments need money.
Money is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. It helps us to satisfy our needs and lead a decent life. We should try to earn money by honest means, not by evil ones. We should also spend money wisely to buy what we really need, such as food, clothing, shelter, medicines etc. We also have to help our poor relatives and neighbours. The development of technology has changed our way of life. Life has been completely changed by the development of technology. Office work has been developed due to the growth of technology. Fax machines help us to send a message within minutes to any part of the world via a telephone line. Also, we can get thousands of copies of the same page by the use of a photocopier. He liked it so much and put it in a good place in his house. When an antique dealer visited him, he admired the vase so much and said that it was a rare and valuable one. He proposed to buy it for his shop for a big amount of money, but my uncle refused and insisted to keep it for himself.
8- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: "The road to success"
Guiding points: Look ahead / concentrate on winning / failure should be a beginning.
Those who walk the road to success look ahead, not back. If you want to achieve success, don't even think about failure. For a successful person, failure should be a beginning. Therefore, he should never worry so as not to put obstacles in the way of clear thinking. On the other hand, he has to bear in mind that it's like learning to ski. Yours truly,
Amgad Hosny

17 Mansheya St
Alexandria
27th January, 2002
Dear Amgad,
I was pleased to receive your letter. Actually, genetically modified crops is a good achievement in our modern life. It makes up for the shortage of food and consequently it prevents starvation. It also protects plants from destructive insects.
However, it is said that it might affect our health in the future. In my opinion, I think , we are in need of this development since there isn't any clear evidence that they are harmful.
Yours,
Salem
12- Write a paragraph of eight lines about: "Drawbacks of learning through the internet at home"
Though learning through the internet has it comfortable attitude , it really has its drawbacks. It shouldn't be the main means of learning and acquiring different types of information. It keeps a student away from the class teacher with whom he discusses the lesson till he is quite convinced, and also from his classmates with whom he participates in the discussion and gets benefit from it. Besides, students would be able to practise school activities in the different areas. Moreover going to school, and spending a school day there, gives a student the opportunity to express himself in real life situations and find solutions to problems which he might face. In the end I can say that I recommend that learning through the internet should be a support based on what's being learnt at school.
13- Write a letter to your British pen friend, Stephen, telling him how education in Egypt has greatly developed recently. Tell him about the new subjects, computers and the internet introduced in our schools. Ask him to write to you about education in Britain nowadays.

205 Roda street
Cairo
Egypt
20 March
Dear Stephen,
Thanks for your letter you sent me last week. I'd like to tell you how education in Egypt has greatly developed in recent years. Thousands of new schools have been built all over the country. New modern school subjects have been introduced into the curricula. Schools have been equipped with computers and the internet. Students are motivated and encouraged to do projects and scientific research. Educational development is going on for the good and progress of our country.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Osama
14- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: "Where we get our food from"
Guiding points:
* important - growth - energy* get - different sources
* animals - milk - meat * some birds - good food
* crops - vegetables - fruit * some - in favour of - GM foods
* think - unnatural - cause ill effects
Food is vital for growth and providing energy. We get our food from different sources. Animals provide us with milk and meat which are a good source of proteins, fats and vitamins. We also get meat. Some birds like hens and ducks are cooked and eaten everywhere. We grow crops, vegetables and fruit for eating. Some people are in favour of GM foods, while others are not. They think that these foods are unnatural and cause ill effects. Seas, rivers and oceans supply us with different kinds of fish and sea creatures that we enjoy eating.
15- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: Your Idea of an ideal family
Guiding parents: number of children / role of parents in family life / love, sympathy and cooperation / help - mercy - get old / meet - discuss - common interests / lifelong family relations.
Everyone dreams of having or living in an ideal family. I think that each family should have two or three children at most as it is not that easy to bring up a lot of children in the same family. In an ideal family everyone plays an important part. Parents love and care for their children during all stages of their lives. It is true that good parents bring up good citizens who can form their own bright future and serve their country as well. An atmosphere of true love, sympathy, help and cooperation should prevail in such a family. Children, in their turn, should help and have mercy on their parents when they get old. They should always meet, discuss and solve their problem in a friendly way. Lifelong good family relations are part and parcel of an ideal family.
16- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: "Mother's Day"
Guiding points: When we celebrate this day / how we express our gratitude to our mothers / presents offered / parties held / how ideal mothers are chosen / how they are honoured / Mother's Day or Family's Day and why.
Every year We celebrate Mother's Day on March 21st, which marks the beginning of spring in Egypt. Spring is the season when the weather and nature are most beautiful. On this happy occasion we express our gratitude to our mothers who spare nothing for our comfort and happiness. We owe a lot to our mothers who sacrifice everything to bring up good citizens in all fields of life. On that day we offer presents and hold parties in recognition of their great favours and services. These presents and parties are only a symbol of our love and gratitude to our mothers. The State also chooses ideal mothers, all over the country, who gave up every thing for the sake of their children, such mothers are considered candles that burn to light the way for others. Yet some people suggest changing the name of that day into Family's Day to honour both parents for their incessant favours and sacrifices.
17- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: " Tourists attractions at the Red Sea"
Guiding points: What tourists prefer / Red sea resorts / natural scenery / water sports / unpolluted
Many tourists from different parts of the world prefer to go to the Red Sea area. The summer resorts there, such as Hurghada and Safaga are very attractive. The beauty of the natural scenery is uncompetitive. The magnificent coral reefs look like sea gardens which attract colourfish. Diving is one of the most lovely water sports in that area. Moreover, the unpolluted environment there makes tourists feel safe and pleased.
18- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: "Global Warming is a world's threat"
Guiding points: What is global warming / Why it is caused / How to prevent it.
Global warming is the change in the world climate to be hotter. Different factors could be the reason behind that change. Volcanic dust is one of these factors as it blocks the rays from the sun over large areas. Another factor is radiation which cannot pass through greenhouse gases. This causes the temperature to rise. Therefore each country should take a positive action to prevent this problem. The destruction of the world's rain forests must be stopped. Trees plantation should be increased. Driving fuel. efficient cars is advised so as to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the atmosphere.
19- Write a paragraph of eight sentences about: "What will life be in hundred years from now"?
Guiding Points:
Population / housing / means of transport / Education
If we gaze into the crystal ball of the future, we will see various scenarios. Population of the world will have doubled unless something is done to control the population explosion. Where will we be living, then? We will have colonised other planets and we will be living in space. Some of us will be living underground without the natural sunlight or rain. We will also be living in tiny one room apartments in huge skyscrapers. Cars won't be the means of transport any more as we will use helicopters in our daily transport. Students will receive their education at home through the internet. Patients with injuries will also be operated at home.

20- Write two paragraphs on: "Energy is the thing nothing can live without."
You can make use of the following:
* its importance to people, animals, plants etc.
* varied forms of energy renewable and non-renewable .* sources of energy.
* fields where forms of energy are used. * dangers of some forms of energy and ways of saving energy.
"Energy is the thing nothing can live without"
Energy is very important not only for living creatures to allow them to move about, to grow and develop, but also to machines to work and provide services to people. Plants too, need energy to grow, to flower and to yield. There are varied forms of energy. Energy obtained from fossil fuels are non-renewable. Energy caused by the sun, the wind and the heat from rocks, are renewable.
Water or hydro-electric power is another renewable source of energy.
Besides, we have the atomic or nuclear energy which is used for different purposes especially for generating electricity which is believed to be a clean renewable source of electricity. People are asked to reduce the amount of energy they use and to find forms of energy that will never run out. Recycling can be a good solution to save energy.
21- Write two paragraphs on: You are a journalist. Write an article encouraging the youth to participate in a campaign for cleaning and decorating nearby districts. You can make use of the following:
* health is better than wealth * dirt and illness.* cleanliness and health * cooperation for the general good. * active role played by youth to better conditions, pass time, earn friendship and experience, help the old and the poor.
It is well known that the sound mind is in the sound body and the sound body is that which lives in a clean, healthy environment. Unhealthy surroundings have bad effects on everything that exists. Therefore it is our duty to keep our surroundings as clean as possible to protect ourselves and our families against dirt and illness.
The Youth know that health is better than wealth, so they are kindly asked to play an active role for the eradication of pollution, dirt, poverty, illness and suffering. They have to cooperate for the general good and for better conditions of life for every citizen. They can clean, beautify and decorate the districts where they live and also the nearby ones. This gives them the opportunity to pass time, to earn friendship and experience and also to help the old and the poor.

23- You have received this letter from your friend Manal asking for your advice. Write her a reply giving her suitable advice to solve her problem.
Dear Dalia,
Sorry that I haven't written for ages, but I've been very busy studying. I'm writing because I really like your advice about a problem I have.
My friends and I have decided to go away on holiday in the summer, but I don't have enough money. I was wondering if you had any ideas about earning some extra cash. If I don't save up enough money by August, I'll have to go away with Mum and Dad instead. Can you think of anything that would help me to make some money quickly?
I know that you always have lots of great ideas! What would you advise me to do? Please write back as soon as you can.
Lots of love,
Manal.
Dear Manal,
Thanks very much for your letter, and of course I'm glad to help you. Here are a few things you can try to earn all the money you need.
First of all, I think you should get a Friday job. Have you thought of trying to get one in a local shop so that you can be also home? This will mean that you won't have to travel so far on Fridays.
Another good idea is to get the job of babysitting. Why don't you ask your neighbours? My only advice is not to get very young children, because they need all your attention.
I hope my advice helps. Don't give up if you can't find a job immediately. Write and let me know what happens.
Yours,
Dalia
24- Write two paragraphs on: A friend in need is a friend indeed therefore we must be careful when we choose our friends.
* You can make use of the following:
- sociable by nature, live apart from other people, wise when you choose, reputable friends, of the same age, interests and degree of education, good morals, good habits, cooperative and helpful.
Man is sociable by nature. No one can live apart from other people. He is in need of others as others are in need of him. It is necessary for everyone to have friends, but not any friends. It is very important for everyone to be wise and selective when he / she chooses a friend. The friends we choose must have good qualities; to be honest, faithful, kind, helpful, cooperative, intelligent, wise, practical, hard-working, polite and educated.
The man is usually judged by his friends therefore we have to choose polite and sincere friends as we may need them or their help one day. True friendship is the only thing we are looking for. A friend in need is a friend indeed. The real friend is the one you find in time of need.
25- Write two paragraphs of five sentences each on: "An Arab Common Market"
* economic integration تكامل اقتصادى - self sufficiency الاكتفاء الذاتى - exchanging goods - customs and taxes * facing competition - having one currency - in Europe - its influence on trade.
We live in an age which aims at integration in all aspects. The Arab Countries look forward to economic integration through a common market. In this case, they will be able to achieve self sufficiency. A country can import what it lacks from another. It can also export its surplus to its brother countries. In the medium, the goods exchanged will be at a lower price as there will be an agreement about customs and taxes. In this way, the Arab market will be capable of facing world competition successfully.
One of the means of realizing Arab economy unity is having one currency. In Europe, countries have got one currency to facilitate trade among them. An Arab currency will certainly lead to the ease of the circulation, movement and transportation of commodities among them. The economic value of this currency reflects the success of its market. In this way we can stand as one block facing the other economic forces that confront us.

27- Write two paragraphs on: "Plants make the world a pleasant place to Live in"
* You can use the following guiding points:
- Plants and flowers for decoration. - The countryside and the beautiful scenery.
- Beauty plants indoors. - Purifying the air.
Plants have been the inspiration of poets with their green colour. The Romantics all wrote about the beauty of the flowers and roses with their different bright colours. Plants make the world green, a colour which puts the eyes at ease. How related we feed when we sit in a garden surrounded by trees, plants and flowers. We feel happy and forget all the troubles and worries of our life.
Plants are greatly beneficial to man. They provide us with fruit, vegetables, wood and shade. We eat vegetables and fruit. We build houses, ships and tools of the wood we get from trees. Moreover, there are plants which are indoors. We call them "beauty" plants because they make the place beautiful and good looking. Plants help to purify the air through getting carbon dioxide and emitting oxygen which is vital for our life.

I read your advertisement in "The World Times" and it is a great pleasure for me to be your pen-friend.
I'm eighteen years old. I live in Abbassia in Cairo with my parents, a brother and a sister. My brother is in the faculty of engineering and my sister is in the prep stage. I go to Hessinia secondary school. I am in third grade secondary. I work hard in order to get high marks as my aspirations are to join the faculty of medicine next year. My favourite subjects are biology and chemistry. I am greatly interested in football and computer. Next time, I'll send you an email if you have the same interest.
I shall be greatly delighted to receive your reply.

29- Write two paragraphs on: "How Scientists are rewarded", Using the following guiding words:
* make achievements - benefit humanity - medicine, chemistry, literature, - award prizes - money - credits - honorary degrees - names registered in history - schools, famous buildings - named after them.
Scientists are people who invent, discover or develop something unknown to the world until they have it. Therefore, their efforts are obvious in all fields of activity whether on earth or space. But for scientists, man would never have landed on the moon or diseases would have stamped out man and man's civilization from the earth. They sacrifice their time, effort, comfort and even health working with dangerous materials to save man's life. Our duty is to say thank you" to everyone of them. This can range from a word of thanks to international prizes such as the Nobel Prizes.
During their life time all international institutions should offer them both financial and psychological prizes. Local institutions should commemorate their names on famous buildings and museums. Books should describe their life history showing the difficulties they faced. In schools, there should be competitions among students for those who are fond of writing about them. There should also be topics about them in school books with their achievements to motivate readers to be like them. When they visit a country, they should be given
a red carpet reception like heads of state. Their children should be cared for by the state as the sons of heroes. In short, we should do everything that makes them happy so that they can go on.

Dear Khalid,
I write you this letter wishing you good luck and to tell you about an interview I had last week for a job.
First the interviewer welcomed me and asked me to introduce myself telling him my full name, my age my social status, my qualifications, place of birth, present address, military service, previous experience and personal interests.
Then he asked me to tell him about the date of graduation, the university I graduated from, my specialization, the grade I got and the languages I learned. He also enquired about the computer skill I've learnt and the foreign languages I can use to communicate and deal with others.
Really, I was self - confident and spoke clearly and frankly without any hesitation. My answers were so convincing that the interviewer was pleased and satisfied.
He asked me to wait in another room for some time, then I was called back to know the result. The man congratulated me on getting the job which I started two days later.
Focus on these things which you will need when you attend any interview. With my best wishes.

31- Write two paragraphs on: A country or a city you hope to visit. You make use of the following:
* the country or city you would most like to visit. - why you would like to go there. - What you would like to do there. - Any difficulties you might have before or after you go there (e.g. money, language, customs, weather ......)
Everyone looks forward to visiting the country or the city he likes. As for myself, I dream of visiting Japan and its capital Tokyo. I've read and heard a lot about Japan, its people, its buildings, its public and private gardens, people's love for flowers, cleanliness, work, freedom, and devotion.
Japan has risen very high in a short time. It is now one of the greatest powers in industry. Their electric appliances, their cars, their robots and many other products are everywhere in the world. There is no polite nation in the world like the Japanese. A Japanese greets his visitors by bending low, welcomes his guests greatly and respects the foreigners. The Japanese woman is unselfish, intelligent, patient, strong, a faithful wife and a loving mother.
Really I'd like to visit Japan to witness its speedy progress which has astonished the whole world, to see how the Japanese managed not only to overcome the disaster caused by the dropping of two atomic bombs, but also how to become without equal in many fields.
Actually there is nothing to worry about. I've started to learn Japanese language besides English which I know well. I've saved some money for that purpose and I think my dream will soon come true.
32- " Great projects solve the problem of unemployment and provide better living conditions"
* You may make use of the following:
- unemployment is widely spread. - different roles played by both public and private sectors.
- big projects carried out nationwide. - high salaries, new life styles, better living conditions

No doubt that the great projects which are being carried out in Egypt nowadays aim at solving or at least at reducing the passive effects of the problem of unemployment. It is a serious social problem and has resulted in a lot of unexpected results. It has led to families and youth sufferings. Families have spent a lot to have their sons and daughters graduated from different colleges and now those sons and daughters instead of working to earn their living and help their families, they do not work and do not earn their living. It is too difficult to control such youth who are exposed to different means of temptation that may lead to deviation and terrorism.
To avoid such bad effects different roles are played by both public and private sectors. Youth are now given
the opportunity to equip themselves with the skills needed for work market. They learn computer technology, languages and other professional skills. The government is, also, doing its best by carrying out great industrial, agricultural and commercial projects all over the country. These, will help solving the problem. Within a short time thousands of youth will find work, get high salaries, lead new life styles and enjoy better living conditions.

- daily and weekly newspapers. - up-to-date news. - Local and international problems. - articles dealing with politics, literature, sports, arts ..... - varied topics for men, women, children.- advertisements of plays, films and jobs, means of passing time, culture and amusement.
Everyone knows how important the newspapers are. The word news means new or fresh information, reports of recent events. The newspapers provide the readers with the latest information about different topics. There are daily and weekly newspapers and each has its own characteristics.
Newspapers have developed greatly. They provide up-to-date local and international news that aim at keeping the reader in touch with the current events. They do not focus on one thing, but they do their best to meet all the reader's needs. They provide articles dealing with politics, literature, social life, religion, history, leadership, car maintenance, computer technology, sports, fine arts, agriculture, industry, new inventions and discoveries, future expectation and others.
These varied topics meet the real needs of men, women, children, newly married men and women who still lack experience and students at different educational stages. Camping, whether in summer or in winter, are one of the main concerns of the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Education. Camps are varied. They are held for the kids, for the youth and for the grown ups. They are held for both sexes; boys and girls.
Camping, in general, aims at making use of the youth's free time, their efforts, their new concepts and ideas for the good of their country. Therefore camps have different purposes. There are camps for computer technology, community service, entertainment, construction and reconstruction, acquiring new skills and for social service. Camps are very useful for their participants. They help participants get rid of bad habits and acquire good ones. Participants learn to be good citizens, to be organized, to be cooperative, to be independent and to be active. No doubt, tourism has recently developed and flourished greatly and become one of the main sources of hard currency for Egypt. This is due to the great interest which is being directed to tourism and to the new places of interest which have been set up everywhere. Nowadays thousands of tourists from different nationalities come to visit Egypt all the year round, not only to see the ancient monuments but also to enjoy the fine weather, the beaches, the international conferences, diving and the safaris.
Those tourists Arabs and foreigners spend a lot of hard currencies travelling from one place to another, staying at hotels, visiting places of interest, eating and drinking and buying souvenirs for themselves and for their relatives and friends.

- The importance of childhood - prepare for the future - modern schools, new teaching techniques, playgrounds, libraries, facilities and modern technology - different activities and games, new skills and good habits - kind treatment, consideration for children's needs - morals, strong personality, TV programmes.
Children of today represent half of the present and the whole of the future. Therefore, much care should be given to childhood; the most important stage of one's life, on which everything else can be built up. It is the stage that prepares for the future of both the individuals and the community as well. To have a bright future, children should be sent to modern schools where new teaching techniques are applied, where there are playgrounds for practising games and libraries equipped with facilities and modern technology such as computers and the internet.
Children at schools should be given the opportunity to try and practise different activities and games, through which they acquire good habits and new skills that they need for the future. Children should receive kind treatment whether at home or at school. Parents and teachers have to show consideration for children's needs. They should teach children how to stick to morals, how to build a strong personality and how to make use of good TV programmes.
